Kick Start Your Exercise Routine
Kick Start Your Exercise Routine
I think everyone at one point in time has wanted to make a positive change in their life by incorporating exercise into their routine. Unfortunately due to both personal and professional commitments this change proves to be far more difficult than we had thought.
It is vital, no matter what the age to make exercise part of your lifestyle. The reasons are far greater than just for general health and well being. In addition to all of the common health reasons exercise can be extremely beneficial in dealing with stress management, increase motivation and energy levels, prolong your life expectancy and independence, improve bone density to avoid osteoporosis and helps people deal with mental illness such as depression.
If you’ve tried and haven’t succeeded to make health and fitness part of your lifestyle, here are 10 key suggestions I can make to help you stay on target with your goals:
1. Maintain a routine with a consistent training program including a balanced diet, cardiovascular and weight training exercise.
2. Slowly progress with your intensity – try harder each time you work out.
3. If exercise starts to feel monotonous choose some alternatives to the gymnasium environment such as beach runs, ocean swims, national park hikes etc.
4. When struggling to push the limits, consider group training, train with a friend or kick start with a personal trainer.
5. Consider corporate training or team building activities to get everyone in your office motivated and start the New Year on a positive and fun note.
6. Assess your current training program and find out why you may not be achieving desired results.
7. Consider taking a massage or visiting a day spa – buy a voucher for a friend and treat yourself for once.
8. Have a makeover, update the exercise gear, wear correct running shoes, feel great when you exercise and burn that big T-shirt.
9. Try to keep up to date with what fitness classes are on offer – keeping informed with help you identify the fabulous from the fad.
10. Don’t turn yourself into a deprived robot – have occasional treats and enjoy things in moderation.
Whatever angle you choose the most important factor is to ensure you make exercise challenging and as enjoyable as possible, maintain contact with friends and family, make time for what is important and remember that gradual progression is the key.
